The African Union of Broadcasting (AUB), in partnership with RAI Italia, officially opened its virtual forum on reporting femicide in Africa on 15 December 2025. The two-day forum brings together journalists, legal experts, academics, policymakers and international partners under the theme “From words to action: strengthening media impact in the prevention of femicide”.

Speakers stressed that femicide has become one of Africa’s most urgent human-rights and development challenges. The forum calls for investigative, ethical and gender-sensitive journalism that goes beyond isolated incidents to examine legal failures, cultural norms, institutional accountability and the long-term social and economic consequences of violence against women.

AUB Director General Grégoire Ndjaka said the media must move from simply reporting tragedies to exposing systemic failures and supporting prevention and accountability. RAI Italia reaffirmed its commitment to international cooperation and to strengthening investigative capacity and journalist protection.

The programme includes AUB research on media coverage of femicide, newsroom case studies, legal and security discussions, cultural analysis and practical approaches for improving reporting. AUB aims to position African media as active partners in prevention, resilience and justice for women and girls.
